My daughter will be entering kindergarten in 2018, so naturally I had a lot of questions and wanted to be prepared as much as I could. Thankfully I was able to attend one of the information sessions hosted by TUSD so I'll share with you what I've learned.
*Victor Elementary Residents - there will be a separate info session held on January 10, 2018 at 6pm at the Family Welcome Enrollment Center.
1. Age Requirements for Enrollment (No exceptions will be made)
- For TK: only available to students born between September 2, 2013 - December 2, 2013
- For Kindergarten: only available to students turning 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2018
2. When can I enroll?
- TK: April 2, 2018 - April 30, 2018 (not all schools offer TK education and TUSD will not know which schools will offer TK until the enrollment has ended and they have the final number of students)
- Kindergarten: You must enroll for your school of residence (If you are not sure which school is your school of residence, check HERE to find out)
- Victor: 1/22 - 1/26
- Anza & Towers: 1/29 - 2/2
- Arnold & Seaside: 2/5 - 2/9
- Riviera & Walteria: 2/13 - 2/16
- Hickory: 2/20 - 2/23
- Fern & Wood: 2/26 - 3/2
- Adams & Torrance El: 3/5 - 3/9
- Lincoln & Arlington: 3/12 - 3/16
- Yukon & Carr & Edison: 3/19 - 3/23

6. Childcare
Kindergarten hours are 9am - 2pm. Torrance Unified School District does not offer child care, however TUSD has collaborated with the YMCA to offer before and after school care for students. Not all schools offer childcare, but YMCA may provide transportation to and from the nearest school that has the childcare program. You must contact the YMCA directly for more information.

7. What documents do I need to bring to the Enrollment?
Proof of Age: any one of the following
- Birth certificate
- Passport
- Birth Record from the records department at the hospital where your child was born
Proof of Immunization
(Must have First and Last Name and DOB of student, and each Immunization must have a complete date and stamp or signature of physician.)
- Yellow Card
- Print Out
- Other Immunization records provided by physician
Proof of Residence:
- Must provide 2 proofs dated within the last 60 days
- Must be in the parent's/guardian's name
- Mailing and Service address must be the same
- Acceptable Proofs of Residence
- Utility Bills - electric bill, gas bill, water, trash, cable/satellite, internet, telephone landline only)
- Mortgage Statement
- Property Tax Bill
- Lease/Rental Agreement
- No Bank Statements
- If you are unable to provide any of the above, additional documents will be required. Please contact the Enrollment Center for more information.
8. Open Enrollment Lottery
Parents who live within the TUSD are allowed to apply to have their children attend a school other than their home school. You can apply on any day between January 2nd and February 28th of 2018 at the Family Welcome Enrollment Center. After all the applications have been accepted, a lottery will be generated and you will be notified of the results by the end of the 2017/2018 school year (around July.)
You will still need to enroll your child at your school of residence at the time assigned (see #2 above)
9. First day of school
is usually the 1st Thursday of September, but the Calendar is not up yet for the 2018 school year. Please check back with TUSD closer to the school year.
10. Student to teacher ratio
is 27 to 1 for TK and Kindergarten.
