By Kathleen Chung November 21, 2017

This holiday season give a gift of hope while you shop by shopping with Trades of Hope.

All around the world, poverty is the root of so many problems. Slavery, slums, sex trade, and mothers relinquishing their children to orphanages because they cannot afford to keep them are heartbreaking realities women face everyday. The mission of Trades of Hope is to use sustainable business and job creation to empower women out of poverty in over 16 different countries around the world. By creating a marketplace for their handmade fashion accessories and home décor, Trades of Hope offers women an opportunity to break the cycle of poverty and be the heroes of their own stories.

Nicole Lee is our local Compassionate Entrepreneur who joined My Trades of Hope a year ago. Her biggest reason for joining Trades of Hope was her friend who is a survivor of human sex trafficking. Nicole is very passionate about the cause, of empowering women around the world. You can support Trades of hope by purchasing the products or joining the team. Nicole will be at the Southeast Library on Dec 5th to give An Educational and Uplifting Presentation on Worldwide Sustainable Business Practices and How You Can Help. Participants can create a piece of jewelry in the style of Haitian Artisans.

Every piece has a story and every purchase changes lives! Here are some stories of some of their artisans.

Lodane from Haiti - Lodane struggled to provide for her four children. Then her sister died, leaving her with three more little ones. Because of her work, her seven children are able to be in school, and Lodane hopes to buy land and build a house for her family.

Grace from Philippines - A woman in her mid-thirties, Grace washes capiz shells, making capiz into translucent white. Grace’s husband works as a security guard, but his earnings are not enough to provide necessities and schooling for their six children, ranging from high school age to three years old.

Maria from Costa Rica - A grandmother living with and supporting her daughter, a single mother, and her four grandchildren, Maria says working with Trades of Hope supports her family. Her heart is filled with joy and gratitude, she says, for the ability to send the children to a good school.

Trades of Hope is a fair trade company and donates 10% of their net profits to life changing causes. Your purchases directly impact their ability to give to causes such as education, counseling, natural disaster relief, sustainable agriculture and ending sex trade.
